| Partita Radicale was founded in 1989
by musicians from Wuppertal and Cologne as an ensemble for
new and improvised music. Over the years various programmes
have been developed: cycles of improvisation, silent-film
music, music theatre for children and programmes created working
together with composers. The works have been documented on
many CDs. Partita Radicale have given guest performances in
many countries, including Belgium, France, Norway, Romania,
Albania and China.
The ensemble, whose members are all classically trained, has
from the start focused on the grey area between composition
and improvisation. The ensemble's working method is characterised
by collective decision making process. From the tradition
of classical music the ensemble takes a preference for chamber
music, closed forms and a sensitivity to tonal colourings.
Partita Radicale have developed a multifaceted style in which
polyphony, fields of sound and transparent poetic structures
are equally integrated.
