| Trio John Russell (giut. ,GB), Mathieu
Werchowski (vl., F), Ute Völker (acc., D)
Three planets - three musical worlds - three musical personalities
from wildly different backgrounds meet each other and form
themselves into a new, unconventional sound cosmos characterised
by sensitive interaction with, and respect for the otherness
of their opposites. John Russell's hard finger picking attacks
meet the sound like, energy laden violin tones of Mathieu
Werchowskis and combines with Ute Völkers chord layering
and deformed melodies.
2000 Emmanuelle Pellegrini formed the trio John Russell, Mathieu
Werchowski and Ute Völker for the Festival Densitée
in Verdun, France. Since then the trio have played together
continually and have documented their work on the CD Three
planets, released in 2004 by the English label EMANEM.
ANDREW CHOATE
They play like three planets - all attracted to the same energy
source, but each instrument revolving and glowing at its own
pace.

THREE PLANETS is definitely not your usual free improv trio
session. Besides the instrumentation, one finds in this album
a rare level of vitality and invention. Possibly one of the
best records of free improvisation in 2004. Highly recommended.
